Operational Leakage
Consultancies can leak money.
They often operate in such a dynamic way that they don’t ever get a chance to optimise. Only when there is a cashflow or bottom line problems, are these shortfalls confronted.
Almost every task performed in your business can be done more efficiently and effectively, reducing the cost of doing business, creating more income, producing more profit, and balancing cashflow.
Contained on the checklist below are 70 consultancy leakage points grouped into 10 categories.
Use them as checkpoints to help you identify where improvements can be made. Small but meaningful changes will really mount up.
Not all leakage can and should be fully addressed. Eliminating time between assignments means no rest for consultants or time to train, for example and things like contract drift (where assignments get delayed) can only be managed to a certain extent.
Nonetheless, making the best of what you have got is simple good business practice.
